To help to make everyone’s visit as pleasant as possible, please note the following:

• Please carry rucksacks in your hand, or leave in the lockers provided.
• A responsible adult must accompany each group at all times.
• Please follow any instructions given by gallery attendants to ensure the safety of visitors and artworks.
• Please note that touching artworks and plinths is strictly prohibited. Even clean hands cause damage.
• No food or drink is allowed inside the gallery. Please book a lunchroom if you would like to eat snacks or lunch during your visit (subject to availability).
• You can take photos of most permanent collection artworks. Check the labels next to artworks to find out which artworks cannot be photographed. Flash and tripods are not allowed.

Please stick to your booking time. If you are more than 30 minutes late we will be unable to honour the booking. Guides are not usually available beyond the stated finish time.

We offer tours for groups of 10 or more. If your group consists of less than 10 people there is no need to book.

For self-led visits please split into groups of a maximum of 20 people.

For guided tours, there is a maximum of 20 participants per guide. Multiple guides may be available for bigger groups.

Community and access groups can comprise fewer than 10 people.

Self-led visits to the permanent collection are always free.

For a Highlights tour, the cost is £5 per person (minimum price of £50).

You can also book a bespoke tour on a subject of your choice; please get in touch for a quote.

Discounts are available for groups of 10 or more visiting ticketed exhibitions if booked at least two weeks in advance (for self-led visits) or four weeks in advance (for guided tours).

Visits for community and access groups are free. This includes free entry to all ticketed exhibitions.

Carers accompanying disabled visitors are also offered free entry.

Please give us two weeks' notice to book a self-led visit and four weeks' notice to provide a guided tour.

The guided tours are led by experienced freelance art educators, artists, and art historians.

Tours for community and access groups are led by a team of freelance art educators with experience in guiding groups with particular needs.

You will find a range of access facilities available at the galleries (accessible toilets, wheelchairs, seating, hearing loops, quiet spaces). Assistance Dogs are welcome at all sites. We understand that you may need to cancel or change your booking. Contact us as soon as possible to let us know of any changes.

For adult group bookings: If the visit is cancelled or changed with less than two weeks' notice, you will be charged the full price of the original booking.

For higher education group bookings: If the visit is cancelled or changed with less than two weeks' notice, we will charge an administrator fee of £50.

This policy is not applicable to community and access groups.

Staff in the exhibition rooms will be able to confirm this for you.

Our website provides information on current displays however if you are planning to see a specific artwork please get in touch to confirm if it is on show on the date of your visit (contact the information desk on +44(0)131 624 6200). Some of the permanent artworks sometimes go on loan to other galleries or might be temporarily in conservation.
